According to reports, my very own Canadian R&B diva
Keshia Chante is set to play the late
Aaliyah in a biopic. Reportedly, she confirmed it in a recent interview with New York's
Hot 97 radio station. I've always thought that Keshia bears great physical resemblance to Aaliyah, and she's also a triple threat, able to sing, dance, and act. I am so happy that she got the role, and this should be a good film. Read the report from Canada's
The National Post:
“ Ottawa-born R&B singer Keshia Chante, 20, will reportedly be playing late singer and actress
Aaliyah in a biopic if the singer and actress' life.
The film is suspected to be released in the new year.
Chante, a Juno-winner, has some acting experience. She starred as herself in Cat's Cradle, a Canadian indie flick filmed in Edmonton, and had a guest spot on Global's Da Kink in my Hair. The casting decision may also have to do with the fact Chante looks like Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001. Aaliyah sold 32 million albums worldwide before her career was cut short and was nominated for five Grammys. ” Source:
